We have a short term supporting trend line from 1257 and a longer term resistant trend line forming a ceiling at 1284. Watch for the break of 1286 for the move up to test on 1300. We are above the 200 MA and could see this retest the 50MA. If sellers take control of direction on the open and we break under the POC look for a test to 1275, then support and 1269.75 then 1259.75 and 1252. Still watching for an extreme low of 1238.50. I will be training in Montreal this July 9-11 with a one day advanced training on July 12. The previous resistance level seems to be the new support level at this time. It is testing this support level for the third time. If the support gives way look for price to head down towards 1255.00, possibly to go through and test the support at 1252.25. If the test of the support level proves to be correct and moves up to pass 1258.50 expect the price to test the top of the channel. The next show of resistance would be 1263.75. If buyers take over price could head up to 1272.25 possibly hitting resistance and continue to head up to test 1277.00 . As Joel says, trade what you see.

From here the buyers could have taken it but did not show enough commitment and left us in a 4 point channel until lunch time when the sellers brought us down to 1257.25 . Our first level of support. If sellers stay in control here we could see a move to 1252 then 1239-41 for the next major support. Selling pressure is huge, and this is over a 100 point correction from the previous swing high. If the sellers can increase volume looking for a low of 1230's before consolidation (3 day period) then next move. Friday should give us some volatility as the question to sell or hold through the weekend could push us to new lows. To the upside from these levels watch for a move back to the 1268-70 area before 3:30 today and then again we will probably see a start of tomorrow's direction in the London open. Remember, using indicators set you up perfectly to be the bait in the market which institutional traders are searching. Lunch time NYSE looking at the S&P500 emini future's price action. The S&P500 took off this morning from the "good news" of the Market at 8:30 am. It turns out it is another one of those "it is not as bad as we forecasted" type rallies with a cheer leading session follow up by the FED at 10:30. Normally this is enough to put the market in a coma but reacting to the not as bad as we thought it was news, the market is putting in its 20 point rally. Price has consolidated here, working on getting committed buyers to step in. The trend has not yet continued through the previous high at 1288.50 where we are expecting a consolidation zone to 1292.25 Watching for the commitment to be executed to move this market after lunch. The 200MA in red, is showing the support to keep the direction of the market going after this 100 point correction. Getting close to the Mid June rally point. Could be now, but would like to see the higher high to give us a turn on the leg down.

Point of Control is 1276.50 with support at 1270.25 and then a bearish trendline support at 1260. This is also a longer term bullish trend line support, and as seen last month a critical support for the move. This is a descending wedge on a decreasing volume pattern, normally we would look for a turn from 1260. If we have a sell off and capitulation, which could take a week then the head fake will be to 1232 and an extreme low of 1208.75 on the new contract. Once we break under he 12701 mark there is not much support here. Watch out for increased volatility and the thinning out on the trading platform. Price reversed and returned to the 200MA (red) and settled in a consolidated trade range between 1315-1324. The price action off the bottom has given us an inverted Head & Soulders with a target of 1341.75 . This Bullish Channel (short term) is holding with support coming in at the 50MA around todays POC. Today's Point of control is 1328 and the bulls are in Control with light buying action in a 5 point range. MOST TRADERS have left the market. Be careful of light volume as we can get some volatility after 3:00 especially into the close. Remember the settings of the market and we are going into a three day holiday. S&P500 emini futures is in a consolidated range for Day trading. We have been in a bearish channel and our now consolidating off of support. It will be tough to get through here and price might have to test down first to build up some momentum to get through. Support coming in at 1311 and then 1302. If we break through the resistance at 1321.50 the next resistance will be 1329.50 then 1340 and 1345 the previous swing high. Our extreme high will be 1357. May starts the move down before the September-October rally. This is not a rule though, just a higher probability. We of course are watching for QE3. Day trading course, who is in control? It seems that the buyers can't get any traction this past week and are being held in this small bearish channel. The sellers have moved in pre open Sunday evening and are testing to support at 1320 area, our support is coming in 1317.75 then 1312.75 and 1303. The POC (the purple) colored line is where buyers have to get above to control direction. Under here and the sellers can test support. The previous bearish trend line could act as support on this test down and looks like it could come in around 1312 area. We do have a slightly lower high on the consolidation at 1340-45. Longer term we would have to get under 1267 for a move out of the uptrend. Euro could have a bit of pressure this week as Portugual and Spain's collapse is coming on. News is in complete denial and Greece wants to get a discount so it doesn't have to keep up with the austerity measures. Join our day trading course and take control of your trading account. Day trading course Silver Consolidation to $40. The Silver market has been quite fun this past week as Sellers faced new margin limits and some of the biggest shorting positions have been played out. [caption id="attachment_3755" align="alignleft" width="251" caption="Day trading course Silver day trading tips"][/caption] Silver showed support at 33.03 as the swing low, many buyers stepped in at the $34 mark. $37-38 is providing some resistance on the retracement. $39.50 is the next area of resistance and then $41.50 which about a 50 % re tracement of this past weeks price action. Watch for a formation of a bear flag with a small sell off to the 34-36 area. If buyers take it through here, we can see an area of consolidation moving to the 50% retracement. Watch out for headfakes during the slow periods. Remember low volume can have very quick moves as there are not many orders on the side lines.

Day trading course Silver and selling the rumor. Day traders have been playing an interesting cash flow from paper SLV etf to Physical. As we are watching the whole market basically changing hands as the Margin requirements have been changed and rumors fly on new requirements that could come out this week.......Sounds like bull, the market feeds on this type of Drama. It also seems Market Makers have used their savvy to have $25 puts on slv making a 7 fold profit in just a few weeks. Probably one of the best calls of the year, but I don't think we are going to see anyone step up for the curtain call. Support is in at 34.00 with a low of $33.02. The pattern gave us a nice reversal to 36.20 which is a $3.00 stop. Took it out and looks like they will use this head fake to make another run on stops at 34.20 and below. This would give us an inverted Head and shoulders but probably won't execute in to the close. Expecting a low volume close. Who would hold into this with the possibility of a gap down and then rally next week?

Pre New York open. You can see the break of the Bear Channel's Resistant trend line with test down to the 50MA, purple, and then breakout from 1337.50 with news at 8:30 ensuing in 13 point run to 1350. A full extension on this move will be to 1372 Extreme high. The Point of Control is 1344. There is a consolidation zone from previous price action 1345-48. During lunch this is the where a lot of retail will be headfaked. Resistance on this move is the swing high of 1350 with 1356 showing some minor resistance to a move up on previous swing highs on Long term. Looks low volume for the day, which normally coincides with price levitation. The 200 MA will give some Resistance on this move up. Might have to bounce down to 1341 area to make the move up.

Day traders will get squeezed on this if they try and guess where the bottom is. Wait for a clear turn. We could het a break around 35-36.50 but would not go against a moving train like this one. The support on the 200 MA at 31.00 looks like the extreme low. the Zone between 34-37 will be an area to watch for some consolidation into the close. Friday will be the tell all as investors again wake up to the price change and think, well now is the time to pick it up, probably in time to see them squeezed again. Buying dips is great, but this is not a dip, it is a short term correction, and waiting for the re establishment of the trend will be easier on your account. Be patient.

These are the price levels we reached this week and day trading targets for this next week as we round the week out in four days of trading. The US government came up to a compromise on the spending plans, averting a shutdown of the government and the Dollar regained some lost ground after weakening most of last week. The Dollar hasn't been able to strengthen as desired after the news as risk-appetite continues to dominate strongly with the high-yielding currencies and commodities forming new highs against the Dollar. The concern was centered on the risk of a total government shutdown; gains in the greenback were trimmed before Fed's Yellen speaks on the economic outlook and monetary policy. Yellen said April 9 that the U.S. recovery doesn't warrant a reduction in the central bank's record monetary stimulus and defended a plan to buy $600 billion in Treasury securities through June. Most analysts see no recovery for the dollar in coming months on expectations the Fed will delay raising rates after the end of its asset-purchase program

Day trading course S&P500 weekly chart targets. We are in a bullish channel on the approach to our previous highs. The charts are showing a possibility of a continuation to the upside. We are presently in an area of consolidation moving out of a bullish Flag pattern. Normally we are looking for a double top to occur within this next week's candlestick. This week could end in a doji, reflecting trader indecision on direction. We are above the point of control so buyers have taken the market from the sellers. We have an upside target of 1421 if we break through the resistance at the double top. Watch for the test this next week. We do have support near by at 1296-1303. A lot of congestion in this area. If we get a lower high on this move up we could see some momentum if there is a sell off to 1265. This Channel is quite strong, we shall see. Remember, this is a longer term chart, we can see the major tendency of buyers and the direction we have. There is about a 60 point swing in the channel andwe are in the mid point. Most of us who have ridden a bike have fallen off at least once. Trading is the same. Most of us that are long term traders, some times "fall off of the bike" too. Trading is one of the most dynamic environments you will ever be involved in. It traps the mind in to thinking that there are rules that will work all the time, That you are making mistakes and don't know what you are doing. It really feels like it accelerates life. I received an email this week from a student that fell off the bike a few years ago, she said that she is willing to get back on and that for some reason, she doesn't have the "self destroying expectations" that she had before. She went on to tell me that she has been taking some of our system trades at lunch time and is profitable "just a little bit" but she feels more confident this time. Giving yourself the space to "ease into" being a trader sometimes takes a few hard falls on your bike. Are your expectations of your self keeping your from getting on the bike again? When volume decreases after a move up we will normally end up in a consolidated range. The only low volume moves that we experience is in the after hours when many of the supports and resistances have been tested making it easier to move through in Regular trading hours. The point of control is at 1331.25 and as of now sellers are in control. Watching for support to come in at the 50MA 1328.50 with more support just under this in a small congestion zone to 1327. Continuing support at the swing low at 1323.75 then 1320 area on the red 200 MA. More Resistance will come in at the point of control on the way back up and at previous swing high levels around 1336-1338. If we see a break of this swing high then our next resistance will be coming in at 1341. After this we are looking at a longer term extreme high of 1356.25 to 1362.50. A quick trading tip for any of you fighting a cold or just feeling down. Stay out of trading. It will be an expensive lesson for you until you are better. Buyers were in control for most of the morning with a nice upswing to just below previous highs. I am watching for this to test down to the 1324.50 area one more time before the close and then to move back to the point of control. Point of control is 1329. support at 1323.75-1324.50 then 1321 and 1315 and extreme low of 1308.25 Point of control will be initial resistance. Watch for swings between 1324.50 and 1328.5 this is the area where the market makers will shark you out of your money looking for a break out. More than likely will be a head fake. Last 15 minutes to have volatility as the boys who can't get home early are taking last minute buys and sells. Could be a little crazy. Look for a close under 1330. We shall see. We are seeing a series of bull flags that are pushing us to previous swing highs. 1315 was the daily point of control and buyers have taken this away. We are on our third leg up of this move from 1240 and looking for some consolidation 1320-1328. Could be choppy tomorrow. Support at the POC. Volume is slowing down again on this move up. WE are closing the day at 1.5 million contracts. A lot of the movement (buying) is occuring in the after hours session. We had capitulatory volume on the S&P500 emini on a 4 million contract day which signaled the end of the sellers in the mid term continuing the move up. Bernanke has more time on his QE2(3) and funds headed into the market until June. If so the extention to 1410 would fall in line with this pattern. We have some rough patches to go through as Oil goes higher and the US consumer deals with price inflation with food going into this summer. 80% of the economy is consumer oriented, price inflation will cause a decrease in overall consumption especially as gas prices increase. Yesterday I filled up at $4.06 a gallon.

The next area of support is at 1294 and then 1279.75. It would not be unusual to test down to 1294.75 vefore a larger move up to 1331 and a double top at 1338 (previous contract level of 1342. We hae resistance at 1316 for a break out to new highs to 1322.50 and then a move to 1331. Day traders can see we have support in at 1289 then, 1285 on point of control and 1281 on a retracement from the swing low at 1272. If buyers are losing commitment on this move up we could see some of these support targets coming on. Japan's market is closed on Monday for a National holiday so some of the volatility will be out for the day. Watch in the evening as the Nikkei opens and we could see some movement on the S&P500 futures contract on the low volume. Watch out. Don't get caught in an after hours open if there is move bad news on the reactors. There are a lot of speculators that looking for Japan and Insurance companies to bring dollars in to pay for the destruction so Market Makers are hammering the YEN. Central Banks are stepping in, but futures market in Yen is getting hammered with large holds against the currency.

We have moved through a 61% retracement and are looking for closing targets around 1285 on the upside or 1272 on the downside. The commitment of buyers at this time is weak and might need to retest the support at 1272-1270 sto then make a move back up on Monday or Tuesday this next week. Remember financials are not connected to the economy when corporations are cutting back inventories and employment. They are moving inverse to the general economy. Forget the news and watch the technicals. The 50ma is coming in tat1286 area and will act as a bit of resistance at this point. European day traders and Asian Day traders are closing their sessions. Expecting a run up into the European close to close on some of the open gaps. Have added a Fibonacci retracement on this swing up to gauge the move down. You can see some major support on the weekly chart around 1210-1215 with the first area of support coming in at 1262. The weekly is presently showing some price failure in this area which could indicate that this down side move will turn. We practically touched the Supporting trend line with this price failure. A pattern to look for will be on the opening of next weeks bar, if the candle stick stays within the real price of this weeks candlestick and test and retraces to 1300, then we might see test to the top. This could give us a double to in a few weeks. Quantitative easing has not yet ended, so watch out. Don't get a crush on this down side. The Federal reserve, a group of private bankers controlling US money supply for their own personal gains, made this bold statement: The recent increases in the prices of energy and other commodities are currently putting upward pressure on inflation. The Committee expects these effects to be transitory, but it will pay close attention to the evolution of inflation and inflation expectations. The Committee continues to anticipate a gradual return to higher levels of resource utilization in a context of price stability. Guess what? The Dollar index shows that his could just be another pipe dream. Looking at this range and having stayed above 1300 support the point of control for this week is 1326.25. If we aren't able to close the week out above 1342 and close around the point of control we might have another week in this consolidated range. Oil prices are pushing domestic gasoline prices up. If this keeps its momentum and oil prices increase we could see another small hit to consumer spending. Price inflation seems to be breaking out. How this will reflect on the S&P500 is yet to be seen as there is normally a quarter lag to any price inflation on the S&P500. Support is coming in at 1298-1302 with further support at 1260, then 1180. 1360-65 would be an equidistant move up from 1000. Could get a little choppy here. Day trading course S&P500 looking at areas of support and resistance on the S&P500 emini future price action. So the big question is: Is the Market going to experience a sell off at these levels? Is the sham of our increasing market valuations just a reflection of dollar value or Fed purchases of bonds and the subsequent purchase of equities by the brokers holding against the bonds. Let's look at the charts. [caption id="attachment_3531" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="day trading course S&P500 "][/caption] The S&P500 has a lower high with price failure on the second move up. Historically we can see in other charts that this pattern has shown up more on a longer period chart. If this was the daily chart I would be looking for the collapse after a bit of consolidation a further retrace. As it stands there is no fear until it breaks some more key levels with a bit more commitment. Sellers are not selling off, they are settling accounts and washing out some of the short term investors that have been buying in at these "safe levels" . When we see a bit more of a sell off, I will be checking buyers commitment at lower levels. Interesting to see that the moves down on the S&P500 emini future are after hours and create an easy path way for price to move through after the open. We have a few open gaps here and would not be surprised to see some early am retracement to 1309 amt 1321-22 area. This would make it easy for the approach on previous highs later this week.

€ The euro depreciated vis-à-vis the U.S. dollar today as the single currency tested bids around the US$ 1.2250 level and was capped around the $1.2355 level. European sovereign debt concerns were back at the forefront today and these led to a weaker common currency. European Union Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Rehn reported "Contrary to what some people argue, Europe is not suffocating growth by this strategy of fiscal consolidation. What we are doing is putting our fiscal houses in order in a gradual, differentiated way: faster where the doubts about fiscal sustainability have been biggest, and slower elsewhere." There is talk that the U.S. and Europe are at odds over a coordinated economic policy. The former is said to favour higher levels of deficit spending to stimulate economic growth while the latter is said to support reduced fiscal spending and would be comfortable with reduced economic output. The European Union is currently evaluating sanctions for "inadequate debt trajectory" and may consider a tax on bond issues by highly-indebted countries. Eurogroup Chairman Juncker reported the economic recovery "remains fragile and loaded with risks." The common currency's standing in many central banks' reserve portfolios is diminishing, a reflection of the currency's recent volatility and the eurozone's significant debt woes. German Chancellor Merkel reiterested Germany wants a stable euro and an independent European Central Bank. European Central Bank member Ordonez said Bank of Spain will publish banks' stress test results as soon as possible. Data released in the eurozone today saw the EMU-16 April current account print at -€5.1 billion, down from the revised prior reading of +€1.5 billion, while EMU-16 June consumer confidence improved to -17. German data saw the June Ifo business climate indicator improve to 101.8 while the expectations sub-index receded to 102 [...]

The German ZEW investor and analyst expectations probably fell for a fourth month in August, according to reports due today. U.K. consumer-price inflation probably slowed to 3.1% (prev. 3.2%) and Canadian factory sales probably fell 0.5% in June. Forex day trading news: The EURJPY gained from a six-week low as Asian stocks reversed earlier losses, spurring demand for higher-yielding assets and the JPY fell against most of its major counterparts after reports that Japan's Prime Minister Naoto Kan and Bank of Japan Governor Masaaki Shirakawa will meet on August 23 and are expected to discuss the currency's recent gains. South Korea's won strengthened on speculation the central bank will allow the currency to rise to contain inflation. There have been strong calls for the government to intervene to weaken the JPY for the first time since 2004 and also called on the BOJ to "engage in large-scale monetary easing." The EURJPY traded at 109.49 after earlier declining to 109.07, the weakest since July 1, USDJPY was at 85.29, EURUSD traded at 1.2835 and the South Korean won rose 0.9% to 1,176.95. Forex day trading NY open As widely expected, the RBA this morning kept their overnight rate unchanged at 4.50%. In his subsequent statement, Governor Glenn Stevens touched on international factors such as moderated Chinese growth, the results of the European stress tests, a weaker jobs picture in the US and also addressing issues much closer to home such as the lower CPI reading, a weak credit market and firming labor market. But perhaps the biggest benefactors of the decision were home owners and the PM herself. With the inflation rate close to targets, the third consecutive rate pause should provide a respite to those with mortgage repayments. The rate hike was widely welcomed by PM Julia Gillard, who of late has seen her popularity diminish as a series of a rate hikes since October have made home loans more of a burden to borrowers. The AUDUSD was trading at 0.9085 after opening at 0.9137 and perhaps was dragged lower by some weaker data released earlier in the morning—MoM retail sales dropped to 0.2% (v 0.4% exp) while building approvals also fell (MoM -3.3% act v 2.0% exp / YoY 13.2% act v 16.0% exp). Asian equities were trading higher this morning and showed no signs of profit booking following yesterday's impressive rally. The Nikkei closed +1.29% higher, and while the gains in Chinese and Indian equity markets were a bit more modest. Currencies have been largely ranging, with the USDJPY a touch lower at 86.45 after opening today at 86.50.

Forex day trading Asian open Risk sentiment was kept propped up during the Asian session this morning, this of course following a strong close to the US equity markets last night. US markets The Dow closed higher, posting a gain of a little more than 100 pts (+0.97%) whilst the S&P was up 1.12% on the session. Markets were boosted earlier in the session by a robust home sales figure which showed purchases increased 24 percent from May to an annual pace of 330K. The data undoubtedly had market participants in a bullish mood regarding the economic outlook and with no major macroeconomic releases during the Asian session this morning, that mood has continued to keep risk appetite higher in Asia this morning. With the Asian equity markets slightly in the red (the Nikkei is 6.81 pts lower at the time of writing) perhaps a view at the currency markets would be more appropriate. The EURJPY continued its good showing over the past few days and was trading close to that important 113.50 – a level which has proven to be a strong resistance level since the end of May while both commodity and growth currencies were higher against the Greenback. Ausie Market Earlier in the morning we had the release of the AUD conference board leading index for May which showed the short to medium term growth forecast in the Australian economy increased to 0.3% from a previous reading of 0.1%. We saw the AUDUSD pair break through 0.9000 (a level last seen on May 13) yesterday, and saw it find good intraday support during trading in the Asian session. We continue taking it session by session and turn to Europe and the US with the release of the important Consumer confidence reading due out at 1400 GMT.

The US Dollar was weaker this morning as there was a slight uptick in risk sentiment and investors turned to higher yielding assets, this following a day in which the Greenback posted gains against equities, currencies and commodities. Asian equities paint a mixed picture this morning – the Shanghai Composite was 50 pts higher while the Nikkei 225 is 114.50 pts lower. But perhaps the losses on the Nikkei are as a result of a lagging market reaction to Friday's selloff following the extended weekend. Currencies are higher against the Dollar as a result of this increasing risk appetite and the USDJPY moved above 87.00 levels. The USDJPY has been a particularly interesting pair the past few weeks. After gaining momentum largely spurred by bad data from the US, the USDJPY hit a seven-month low last week and has now (precariously) entered a range where talk of BoJ intervention has started. Noted in our Daily report yesterday, the Yen is fast approaching levels where the BoJ will have to begin easing monetary policy in an effort to protect their exporters and as a result this might indicate buying opportunities in a pair which has been heavily oversold of late. Commodity currencies are all higher this morning, amongst which the Aussie has been the most bullish performer, gaining for the first time in four days against the US Dollar and appreciating more than 100 pips against the Yen since market opening. The Aussie has been supported by gains in equity markets and a flow of fresh buying but this was not before experiencing a slight pullback following the meeting minutes which signalled a rather conservative approach from the RBA. In a statement released earlier in the morning, the RBA will take a wait and watch approach in gauging their medium term inflation outlook (and their resulting interest rate) as the European bank stress test results along with some regional data could influence the rate decision come their next meeting.

Forex day trading with the Japanese markets closed for a national holiday, currencies haven't been able to extend on Friday's large selloff and have been largely stable this morning with a slight US dollar bias. The Greenback's performance of late has raised questions about it's status as a safe-haven currency and similarly the positive correlation seen between the major equity markets and pairs such as the EURUSD have also raised some doubts. One thing for certain has been the performance of the JPY amidst the heightened levels of risk aversion. Following Friday's brunt of bad news – lower US consumer confidence, weaker than estimated revenue reports from GE and banking giants BoA & Citigroup – Yen crosses have greatly prospered, particularly the USDJPY which has been on an absolute heater since Wednesday of last week, shedding more than three hundred points in its march towards 86 levels. Amidst all the sluggish sentiment in the market, USDJPY traders will be eyeing that November 2009 low of 84.83. The Aussie and Kiwi pairs have also been slightly weaker this morning and should remain in a mixed yet stable range in the build up to tomorrow's release of the RBA's meeting minutes.

Forex trading USDJPY Yen bullish

USDJPY continued building on its downward move from the past two days to touch 86.98 this morning – approaching the lowest level in 2010. The Yen's bullish move really picked up when the Fed adjusted its forecasts for future growth and since, has been in a downward spiral gathering steam with each piece of negative economic data coming from the US; first the lower US manufacturing number and a rather disappointing Google earnings report (Q2 Profit per share 6.45 actual v 6.521 exp). The weaker economic and equity earnings data from the US has kept Asian equities in the red; with the Nikkei lower by -2.86% at the time of writing. The NZDUSD dropped from 0.7300 levels after data from New Zealand showed CPI was marginally lower on both the QoQ and YoY reading (QoQ -0.3% actual v 0.4% previous, YoY 1.8% actual v 2.0% previous). The Kiwi dropped more than 1.5% to 0.7170 after the news. The weaker CPI data and poorer housing sales from June will certainly buy Central bank governor Bollard time to raise rates. Meanwhile next door the AUDUSD pair was weaker before finding some minor support at 0.8745 levels. With the compounding bad data from the US, the AUDUSD looks vulnerable (as a growth currency) but will be waiting for the last important piece of data – the US CPI reading (1230 GMT) to establish how it will close a rather mixed trading week.

Forex day trading: The main highlight of today's session will be the latest reading of US CPI for Jun, where markets are anticipating the headline rate to decelerate -0.1% MoM to 1.2% YoY. Richmond Fed President Lacker commented yesterday that he would not like to see inflation much lower than this and added that inflation expectations pointed to actual inflation heading higher in the coming months. Elsewhere the market is largely being driven by position covering as more and more participants drift off for summer holidays; the major beneficiaries are predictably EURUSD and GBPUSD (both of which have gained around 2.5% over the course of the week), and given these moves have broken a number of significant resistance levels along the way, we feel the follow-through could take us back above 1.3000 in EURUSD and 1.5500 in GBPUSD.

No changes expected from the BoE this month, with rates static at 0.50% and the asset purchase target at GBP200bn; but the prospect for the path of interest rates in the UK has certainly become more interesting since the revelation of a split vote at the last meeting. The most recent release showed that annual inflation pared back to 3.4% in May; down from the prior 3.7% seen in April but still well in excess of the 2.0% target and indeed the 3.0% threshold set by the Treasury. Ultimately, even if MPC member Sentence (the sole dissenter looking for a hike last month) does manage to sway some of his borderline colleagues to consider a hike as well, it is unlikely the hawks will muster the numbers for an actual hike at this meeting. Instead we will have to wait for the release of the Minutes on 21 July to hear the juicier points of discussion.

. Dealers pared exposure to higher-yielding currencies in reaction to renewed European sovereign credit woes and an outlook for weaker economic growth in the U.S. and China. More economists and market-watchers are starting to suggest the U.S. economy could be headed into a "double dip" recession while others suggest the U.S. economy may simply be moderating to annualized growth of 1.5% or less. Dealers are also reducing exposure to some U.S. assets as tropical storm Alex develops in the Gulf of Mexico. The European Central Bank stoked concerns today when it announced the amount it has expended in purchasing covered bonds exceeds the initial €60 billion cap it implemented twelve months ago. Also, the ECB failed to drain all of the liquidity in one of its regular operations to neutralize the impact of its EMU-16 government bond purchases. The ECB sought to absorb €55 billion but only absorbed €31.9 billion. ECB member Nowotny reported the low level of eurozone inflation has given the ECB "room for maneuver," a possible indication the central bank may expand its bond-buying program. Traders reported Eurosystem central banks increased their purchases of Greek, Irish, and Portuguese securities today. There is also pessimism ahead of 1 July as banks have to repay €442 billion, the ECB's first twelve-month loan. Spanish finance minister Salgado said she hopes the "ECB is conscious of the needs of our financial system." A draft European Union document notes stress tests on European banks need to incorporate sovereign debt risks. Data released in the eurozone today saw the EMU-16 June business climate indicator remain steady at 0.37 while June industrial confidence and June consumer confidence were also unchanged. June economic confidence and services confidence ticked marginally higher. Also, French June consumer confidence ticked lower to -39. Forex day trading With no major news releases of note, there won't be much to trigger further selloffs, however the weakness should continue in the buildup to Europe's opening. The markets continue to be weak through the Asian trading session this morning following a dismal US trading session in which the Dow shed 265 pts during trading last night. The markets have failed to find any inspiration or support from relief buying after a day in which worldwide markets experienced sharp selloffs on signs the global economic recovery was running out of steam, triggered first by China's downward revised leading economic index and then couple with the largely uninspiring US consumer confidence number released last night, which came out at 52.96, much lower than analysts expected (62.5). Asian equity markets extended their weakness into trading this morning; the Nikkei 225 broke an important support level of 9350, posting a seven month low of 9347 whilst the Shanghai Composite crashed through 2400, a level not seen since mid 2009. Turning to the currency markets, the Yen continued to benefit and bask in its 'safe-haven' status and was trading firmly around 88.50 levels. AUDUSD was marginally higher this morning after breaking below 0.8490 levels last night. Data from Australia this morning showed that housing prices increased and bank lending continued to be higher for a sixth straight month. For a nation that was one of the flag bearers in increasing rates and tightening cycles (due to inflationary concerns largely inspired by a robust housing market) the figures represent that the housing market down under is holding up rather well despite dampening demand as a result of potential future rate hikes.

Asia awoke this morning in a rather bearish mood after the New York-based Conference Board said its China leading economic index rose only 0.3% in April, far lower than the 1.7% gain reported in June. With investor sentiment dampening on the news , Asian stocks went through a large selloff and are poised to close significantly lower, led by the Shanghai Composite which fell to a new year low (down 3.45%) followed by the Nikkei which was down 1.47% at the time of writing. Following the downward revision, fears that the growth prospects in a country what has been termed the engine room for the global recovery may falter have seen risk sentiment severely erode as investors flocked to the more traditional safe havens - the yen appreciated to a seven week high against the Greenback, hitting 88.61 while AUDUSD and NZDUSD both shed approximately 1% on the day. Gauging by Asia's harsh reaction to the news, the bearish mood should filter into the European trading session and should keep risk markets in check. Investor sentiment could take a further hit when the consumer confidence number reading for the Euro-Zone region releases at 9 am GMT today. Although expectations show a slight drop in the consumer confidence (a survey on Bloomberg shows the figure expected at 98.1) we will need to keep an eye out how far the number falls from the previous reading of 98.4. Earlier in the morning, data from Japan showed that industrial production and household spending slipped during the month of May. This was compounded with a slight uptick in the jobless rate in Japan (5.2% v 5.0% exp) and a lower YoY vehicle production figure (30.6% v 50.8% prev).

Forex day trading news EURUSD, USDJPY Earlier in the morning we had the MoM retail trade figure from Japan which was weaker at -2.0% versus an expected 0.1%. Large retailers' sales were also significantly weaker at -4.0% versus an expected -2.9%. With a very light economic calender for the day, investors focus will be towards the Euro-Zone M3 reading due after European equity markets open followed by Personal income and personal spending from the US. Asian markets opened this morning in the red as the recently concluded G20 meetings fell well short of investors' expectation that the global economic recovery was gaining momentum. The weakness in investor sentiment was more reflective in the Asian equity sector, with the Nikkei down half a percent at 9689.68 and the Shanghai composite down 0.53 percent at 2538.84 at the time of writing. Some highlights from the recently concluded meetings included initiatives for banks to have higher capital requirements as leaders pressed for banks to increase their respective common equity as a percentage of their Tier 1 capital to allow a cushion in case of another shock. Although plans were in place to maintain existing stimulus measures, the recovery was still termed 'uneven and fragile.' Perhaps the markets expected more from the recently concluded meetings, but the lack of inspiration was reflective in the currency markets which were largely flat at the time of writing; USDJPY was marginally higher at 89.41 and AUDUSD was trading at 0.8753.

This consolidation or area of indecision is characterized by a 50-61% retracement of the move up. Looking for the velocity of the move to get an indication of the length of consolidation. As you can see we have had three bull flags on the way up on the 480 min chart, continous contract on the S&P500 emini future March expiration. Each move up is decreasing in its range. Although this isn't a widely held market and the volume has been decreasing on the move up, we can see that there is continuation in the major trend. Buying the dips, has been easy pickings this past two weeks. Watching for a pull back and a further continuation to 1365 then 1425. If the market holds.

For those investors, including the Fed that have been buying bonds recently in this bond bubble, are now having their heads served to them. It is estimated that even the Fed has lost around 10 billion dollars in todays price as interest rates have blossomed and price for bonds have gone down. So as the Fed has been purchasing most of the bonds over the past few months, the prices have been going down meaning these bonds bought with tax payer money, are worth less and less. 	Analysts are in unanimous agreement that the ECB will keep interest rates at 1.00% this month; and officials are likely to repeat verbatim the language of previous statements that current monetary policy remains "appropriate". The official statement will provide the usual recap of the latest economic picture (unlikely to hold any surprising views), but once again, most market and media interest will concern the Q&A portion of the press conference. Trichet is almost certain to be asked to give his opinion on recent Eurozone crisis developments, but don't expect him to reveal too much here as given the sensitivity of Eurozone sentiment he is likely to be politic in his choice of answers.

	No changes expected from the BoE this month, with rates static at 0.50% and the asset purchase target at GBP200bn; but the prospect for the path of interest rates in the UK has certainly become more interesting since the revelation of a split vote at the last meeting. The most recent release showed that annual inflation pared back to 3.4% in May; down from the prior 3.7% seen in April but still well in excess of the 2.0% target and indeed the 3.0% threshold set by the Treasury. Ultimately, even if MPC member Sentence (the sole dissenter looking for a hike last month) does manage to sway some of his borderline colleagues to consider a hike as well, it is unlikely the hawks will muster the numbers for an actual hike at this meeting. Instead we will have to wait for the release of the Minutes on 21 July to hear the juicier points of discussion.
